This week we at the York Tories have ample opportunity to discuss the more complex and/or controversial matters that arise from politics. On Wednesday we have our famous Port and Policy session. This will be in D/104 at 8PM, where free port will be provided (although please feel free to BYOB). Everyone will have the opportunity to move any motion they want, before we go to the floor for any extras anyone has (or has just thought of). Full details, including last term’s motions, can be found on the Facebook event here.
On Friday, we have a wonderful guest in the form of Lord Norton of Louth. Lord Norton is a Professor of Government in the Department of Politics and International Studies at the University of Hull, and was head of the Department from 2002 to 2007. Since 1992 he has been the Director of the Centre for Legislative Studies
He was created a life peer with the title Baron Norton of Louth in the County of Lincolnshire on 1 August 1998, and from 2001 to 2004 served as the chairman of the House of Lords Constitution Committee.
We will be listening to Lord Norton at 7:30 PM in D/104. This will proceed our regular open committee meeting, and precede our traditional curry. As usual, all are welcome.
