YUSU EUROPEAN ELECTION DEBATE

The University of York Student Union hosted this event whereby students and staff of the University, whatever their political persuasion, could listen to pitches and ask questions of party representatives about the imminent elections.

Representing the Conservative Party was Timothy Kirkhope MEP. Timothy talked about the need for a strong British voice within the European Union, he explained and explained why a vote for UKIP is a wasted vote. Supporting him from the audience was a delegation of York Tories.

Also on the panel were representatives from Labour, the Lib Dems, UKIP and the Greens. A straw poll taken at the end showed most support for Labour, the Greens and of course Timothy and the Conservatives, with the Lib Dems and UKIP some way behind.
