On Wednesday 22nd January the Association heard from Dr Eamonn Butler, Director and co-founder of leading free-market policy think tank The Adam Smith Institute.
Dr Butler is the author of books on the pioneering economists Milton Friedman, F.A. Hayek, Ludwig von Mises and Adam Smith, and co-author of Forty Centuries of Wage and Price Controls and books on intelligence testing. He has degrees in economics, philosophy and psychology, gaining a PhD from the University of St Andrews in 1978. Well-regarded in his field, Dr Butler currently stands 30th on TotalPolitics’ list of Top UK Political Influencers.
Speaking on the role of the state, Dr Butler outlined a persuasive case for minimal government and answered questions on topics ranging from the relationship between the state and society, to banking reform.
The event was enjoy thoroughly by all of those who attended and, having also welcomed fellow co-founder and President, Madsen Pirie to the University back in November 2012, we hope that our relationship with The Adam Smith Institute can continue to flourish over the coming years.
