On Friday 7th February, the York Tories had the privilege of hosting York Conservative Association at the Hilton Hotel for an evening with the Secretary of State for Wales, the Rt. Hon. David Jones MP, who we were delighted to welcome. Following a drinks reception, guests were treated to a wonderful meal and an excellent speech, where David Jones spoke about his experience as an MP and as a Cabinet minister and answered a diverse range of questions with clarity and panache. As a small token of our gratitude we presented David Jones with a York Tories tie, which he kindly promised to wear next week in the House of Commons.
As more than two Conservatives were gathered in one place, a raffle was held, this time in order to raise money for the York Conservative Association. Some members then headed into town to continue the fun in the bars and clubs of York. The event was a great success, building on our links with the local association.
The following Wednesday, members were thrilled to see David Jones wearing his new York Tories tie proudly at Welsh Questions in the House of Commons – a man of his word!
