On Friday 21st February, the York Tories hosted an evening in the Ron Cooke Hub at the University of York with Andrea Jenkins, the Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Morley and Outwood. This is the current seat of the Shadow Chancellor, Ed Balls, and she only needs 1,101 votes (a swing of 1% from Labour) to win. The start of the evening was slightly delayed due to an automotive difficulty, but in true Tory style, members of the society rescued her from the roadside and the evening was eventually able to commence. Andrea talked about her campaign and her already rounded and diverse career. Andrea has over 15 years experience in management in the private sector and has also worked as a music tutor, teaching in three state secondary schools. After her decision to retrain, Andrea has undertaken a degree in International Relations and Politics and is also studying economics with the Open University. As if that wasn’t enough she is also an avid fundraiser for charities such as Macmillan, Save The Children and the Army Benevolent Fund. We would like to thank Andrea for her visit and would like to wish her the best of luck in ousting Ed Balls from the House of Commons.
