This year’s York Tories Christmas Ball was unlike no other with the privilege of playing host to the Northern Conservative Future Partnership on Saturday 7th December 2013. The Ball took place at The Royal York Hotel in what was one of the Association’s most successful ever events. One hundred people attended; testament to the strength of the Conservative Party in the North of England.
The event kicked-off with a drinks reception in the Minster Room of the hotel where an array of appropriately blue-coloured cocktails were on offer. Once guests had arrived we made our way to the elaborately decorated Oak Room for dinner, a truly impressive space. We were honoured to welcome to York our guest of honour for the evening, The Hon. James Wharton, Member of Parliament for Stockton South and champion of the EU Referendum Bill. It was also our pleasure to welcome to York, albeit a very late addition, William Goodhand, PPC for Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland. Guests included members of the Conservative Future National Executive as well as Branch, Area and Regional Officers from across the North East and North West. We were also joined by a large contingent from the York Conservative Association, including many Executive Officers – we are very grateful to them for supporting our event. As always there was a great presence of York Tories Alumni, in addition to the vast numbers of current members in attendance.
After the obligatory five verse National Anthem we heard from James Wharton MP and Will Goodhand PPC. Both offered inspiring words as we look forward towards the General Election in 2015. We also heard from Daniel Hawkridge (outgoing York Tories Chairman), James Gould (Northern CF Partnership Chairman), Chris Rowell (Yorkshire & the Humber CF Chairman) and Calum Stewart (York Tories Chairman-elect).No Conservative event would be complete without a raffle, and ours was in aid of the Northern CF Partnership 2015 Fighting Fund. The fund will assist with supporting Conservative Future and their campaigning efforts over the coming months across the North of England.
With the raffle over it was time for the after-party at Macumba Cocktail Lounge, with many of our one hundred guests having joined us. Willow was, of course, next. A fitting end to a fantastic evening,
This event was the last for the 2013 York Tories Committee, with special thanks going to outgoing Chairman Daniel Hawkridge and outgoing Events Officer, now Chairman-elect, Calum Stewart for organising such a wonderful evening. We wish the incoming Committee the best for the next twelve months and thank the outgoing Committee for all of their hard work.
