The York Tories were very proud to welcome to the city, one of the most distinguished members of Parliament, the Rt. Hon Peter Lilley MP.

Peter has been a Member of Parliament for over 30 years and has served the constituency of Hitchin and Harpenden since 1997. He has held numerous positions including Secretary of State for Social Security, Secretary for State for Trade and Industry and Shadow Chancellor.

The evening was hosted at the Churchill Hotel and was attended by Society members, members of the York Conservative Association and members of Conservative Future. The evening started with a drinks reception with wine and nibbles.

Following this, Peter talked to us about the environment, climate change and his opposition to the Climate Change Act, amongst other things, such as his opposition to identity cards. He was also more than obliging in answering questions from the floor. The evening finished with the presentation of a York Tories tie to our speaker and a traditional Tories raffle with prizes such as books, wine and Conservative trinkets generously donated by friends of the society.
