The debate over gun control is always an interesting one. It usually splits opinions as many believe in freedom of the individual and liberty, but find it difficult to argue for the lifting of ALL gun restrictions. The speakers for this debate were Dan Hawkridge and Sarah Ralphs. Proposition argued well, focusing on liberty and the overbearing Nanny State. Opposition argued that Government needs to weigh up liberty of the people and protection of the people. The debate proved to be rather one-sided due to the somewhat extreme motion. The opposition won by 8 votes. However, there were 6 abstaining, hopefully the debate helped people weigh up the pros and cons in order to create a well-rounded opinion. The discussion over gun control continued while the society enjoyed drinks in D bar, and then headed into town for some pizza.
