This Friday the York Tories had their first debate of 2016! At a time of such high threat from terrorism, the York Tories debated to what extent the government should use surveillance. Namely, whether the so called ‘snoopers’ charter’ should be passed into law.
The motion was “This House believes that that the Draft Communications Data Bill should be passed into law”.
A vote was carried out before and after the debate, with the results shown below.
With a lot of people on the fence from the start all was to play for in the run up to the debate. However, the ‘For’ side managed to keep their advantage, with 62% of the audience voting for the motion following the debate.
The motion therefore carried, that the Draft Communications Data Bill should be passed into law.
